About us

‘Charis’ is the Greek word for grace and it embodies the concept of unmerited favour.

At Charis Communications we are passionate about communicating this favour.

We work to increase biblical literacy, develop effective leadership and enhance initiatives that engage communities.

We are totally committed to inter-church co-operation and regularly partner with others to bring our skills and understanding to their project delivery.

Increasing Biblical Literacy

A better understanding of the Bible leads to a more effective application of God's grace in our lives.

We are aware that levels of biblical literacy in the world are minimal, and sometimes almost as low in sectors of the Church.

We have a number of projects designed to increase biblical literacy, including: a church-based biblical studies course; a commitment to the free distribution of Hugh Osgood's Bible teaching on-air, on-line, and in person; and the provision of books, in both physical and e-format, to encourage personal and spiritual development.

Developing Effective Leadership

Effective leadership is the key to success in delivering projects and initiatives.

We seek to equip and develop leaders by providing training days, academic programmes and mentoring opportunities.

Between us, our team has a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience that we can bring to others.

To enhance our global reach, we are expanding our online presence to release multiple mentoring video clips on a wide range of leadership-relevant topics that, until now, we have only been able to present in person.

Enhancing Kingdom Initiatives

Grace makes us look beyond ourselves to meet the needs of others.

We are committed to working alongside churches and agencies that are reaching communities beyond their own partners and congregations.

We have considerable experience in helping to strategise the delivery of community-focused initiatives in the UK and around the world, in education as well as in spiritual and social welfare.

Some of these projects have had significant national and international impact.

Accessible Bible Teaching

Our creative media team and office staff support the vision for allowing people around the world to access Hugh Osgood's Bible teaching for free online, on-air, in-print and in person.

We are currently working towards producing Hugh's existing books as e-books and setting up a studio to record shorter clips for YouTube to compliment all of our existing broadcast resources.

We have been involved in the setup and continued development of Churches in Communities International, which provides recognition, accreditation and accountability to independent churches, chaplains, ministries and networks.

We have provided communications support, governance advice and encouraged community engagement, both centrally and to its members.

We have hosted annual events where church leaders can spend a day with us gaining expert advice on issues such as governance, finance, charity compliance, mental health and cross-cultural evangelism.

These events are always well-supported and we are currently preparing masterclasses for 2018 and 2019 with various expert delivery partners.

Over the years we have supported education and social welfare projects in Uganda, providing strategic support for local charities as they turn plots of land into fully-functioning primary and secondary schools.

We prioritise securing education for children from the poorer communities and ensuring that girls and boys have equal access.

We have also advised the Government on issues of urban education.

raising young leaders

We maximise opportunities to encourage young leaders in every nation we visit.
In Nigeria, we equip young leaders through conferences and one-to-one engagement.

School of Biblical Studies

We have developed a modular course that we have been teaching for many years to church members drawn from across London and further afield.

We are currently upgrading the course material so that it can be delivered to church leaders as a one day per month course as well as a weekly evening programme.

This will then be available as a resource that can be taught by leaders of local churches who have attended our briefing days for lecturers.
